Research Interests:

Dr. Shuler main research interest now is on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) via injection of chemical formulations into oil reservoirs. He was involved in directing the field implementation of chemical flooding projects for Chevron in the 1980's, and recently has been directing surfactant and microbial EOR laboratory research projects at PEER Center that are supported by the Department of Energy and major oil companies.

Other research interests are in scale and gas hydrate control, especially for deep water operations. He has broad experience in the area of laboratory, field, and computer modeling studies of fluid treating issues for oil and gas operations worldwide. This has included: (1) Worldwide troubleshooting for downhole and facilities scale control problems. (2) Development and industry application of mathematical models for the scale inhibitor squeeze process, a proven approach to optimize these treatment programs. (3) Application of new chemistry for hydrate prevention (kinetic hydrate inhibitor). (4) Consultant on projects concerning well injectivity and bacteria control.
